Rebalancing Capitalism or Delaying Real Progress? A Critical Examination of Impact Measurement

    Professional Development Workshop

2023 Academy of Management Annual Meeting (session 482)

5 August 2023 - Boston Park Plaza in Grand Ballroom B

Open to all AOM meeting attendees

You are invited to join us for a Professional Development Workshop on the topic of Impact Measurement and Valuation at the Academy of Management Annual Meeting. This PDW is sponsored by the Social Issues in Management, Critical Management Studies, and Organizations and the Natural Environment divisions. We introduce participants to the main processes of impact measurement and valuation (IMV) and critically examine the ethics and politics of these processes. The PDW brings together leading experts in the field to discuss impact measurement's potential merits and risks. In the second half of the PDW, attendees will be invited join the experts in thinking through potential narratives of change beyond more measurement in an open-dialogue table discussion format. The purpose of this PDW is to place IMV under deep investigation and envision new processes that work with or replace organizations' desire for management via quantification.
