This is the last chance to register for our Professional Development Workshop on conducting research in extreme and unconventional contexts. Pre-registration is required, and the remaining spaces are filling fast.
Fieldwork in unstable settings has become both more urgent and more demanding. Conventional methods break down under conditions of risk, urgency, and political sensitivity, and this workshop offers a space to reflect collectively on what that means for how we do research. What do unconventional contexts reveal that stable settings conceal? How do researchers improvise when classical approaches prove inadequate? And how does knowledge generated at the margins achieve rigor and publishability in top management journals?
Our panelists Hatim Rahman, Kisha Lashley, Luke Hedden, Nishani Bourmault, and Olivia Brown will share provocations from their own fieldwork, with responses from discussants Katina Sawyer and Rashedur Chowdhury. Roundtable discussions will follow on field access, ethics, and the human dimensions of extreme fieldwork. Early-career scholars will have direct opportunities for feedback and guidance from experienced fieldworkers.
