Transition Environnementale et transformations du TRAvail  / Ecological Transitions and Transformation of Work (TETRA)

The CNRS has opened a Junior Chair Professor (tenure track position) on ecological transitions and transformations of work. The LEST is one of the potential host for this position. Potential disciplines include management, organizations studies and organizational sociology.

The relationship between work and the environmental crisis has been a core issue for more than a decade. The 2020 pandemic made it all the more urgent to understand the complex links between the environmental crisis, the health crisis and changes in the world of work. These changes include the greening of jobs, atypical career changes, the 'great resignation' and the rise of working from home. The person recruited will analyse the impact of the ecological transition on: production processes and new occupations, the sustainability of forms of work organisation, home-work mobility, and finally the links between the environmental crisis, the meaning of work and well-being. He/she will also study emerging forms of inequality and tensions between the ecological and digital transitions, with particular focus on changes in industrial relations. Methodologically, priority will be given to mixed approaches as well as intra- and international comparative methods.

This CPJ involves one of the 5 research themes CNRS HSS wishes to prioritise in the framework of a multi-annual recruitment strategy that involves CPJs at the interface between law, economics, political science, territorial sciences, sociology - political studies, studies of the forms of social life.

In 2022 CNRS Humanities and Social Sciences initiated multidisciplinary work which led a group of multidisciplinary research laboratories to draw up a state of knowledge in the humanities and social sciences and produced a white paper devoted to research on work. Now the Institute is proposing a CPJ on the same subject.

This CPJ provides the opportunity to highlight a key research issue following on from this collective research. Work remains central to both the individual and collective trajectories of our societies but in recent years work environments have gone through profound changes including digitalisation and platformisation, environmental transition, tensions over social rights and reconfigurations of the relationship between time and employment. In this context, innovative, interdisciplinary research is essential to inform public policy and organisational strategies. As yet, humanities and social sciences research seems to have taken little interest in the impact on work of transformations brought about by the environmental transition in terms of professional practices, social relations and economic organisation. This will be a core subject for this CPJ.
