"The long-run goal is, I think, the same for every human being, that politically he or she may be allowed to live free from fear, insecurity, terror, and oppression, free also from the possibility of exercising unequal or unjust domination over others"
(Said, 1980, p. 53 in The Question of Palestine)
The CMS Executive Committee are thinking of our community affected by the ongoing war against the Palestinian people and the innocent Israelis kidnapped by Hamas.
As a Division, our members have stood against oppressive regimes, injustice and violence and support human rights and equality. Around the world, our members have been facing ongoing attacks and persecution from regimes that threaten freedom and the right to live.
Palestinians and their allies have fought over decades to free the settler colonial occupation of Palestine and the genocide of their people. Recent strikes against Palestine have resulted in thousands of innocent citizens, many of them children being massacred. The CMS Executive denounces the violence and destruction bringing harm to civilians and the most vulnerable in that region.
We are concerned for all who are displaced and remain in need of basic provisions like water, food, shelter, and medical provisions.
The United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire. The CMS Division joins this call as we commit to the principles of non-violence, respect for human rights, and the protection of civilian lives.
